ALL ROUTINE VISITS AND NON-ESSENTIAL TREATMENTS ARE SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID-19

The Mugford Center would like to provide an update to all of our valued patients with concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus.

Based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) that citizens self-isolate during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the state of Maryland recommendations and restrictions, the Mugford Center will be limiting hours of operation and treatment available.

We are dedicated to the well being of all our patients and will be available for emergency care for pain swelling and infection as well as for urgent care which requires timely treatment.

As health care professionals, we all have a role to play in “flattening the curve” by following sound, scientific public health advice to help limit infections and slow the spread of the virus.

Bearing this in mind, we are carefully screening all scheduled and necessary treatment. and only seeing patients for emergency or urgent care. We take seriously the need to be available for our patients to avoid unnecessary illness or injury as well as preventing burdening our hospitals and emergency rooms.

We will reschedule all canceled appointments in a timely manner upon returning to the office and appreciate your understanding under the current circumstances.

We will continue to closely monitor the latest information and recommendations to promote a safe and healthy environment for our patients and staff. We plan to be available to provide safe and optimal care on this limited basis.

Our infection control procedures fully cover the COVID-19 virus, as they do all infectious diseases. We are taking extra precautions in screening our employees and patients, along with sterilizing the common areas of our office often.

We look forward to seeing you at your scheduled appointments. Please call the office if you have any questions or concerns, and we will be happy to address them.

Protecting you and your smile,
The Mugford Center

The Effects of Missing Teeth

Your teeth are an important feature of your mouth. Brushing, flossing and regular dental visits are essential for keeping them, and the rest of your mouth healthy. Ignoring any part of your oral care routine can quickly lead to issues such as tooth decay and gum disease, both of which can lead to tooth loss when they go untreated. Sometimes, tooth loss can occur as a result of an accident, such as an auto accident, a fall, or a sports-related injury. No matter how you lose your teeth, the effects can be devastating. The Mugford Center can help.

Difficulty Chewing and Eating

If you are having trouble eating with missing teeth, we can help you replace them with dental implants or another tooth replacement solution.Your teeth are essential for biting and chewing food. When you chew, you break down the foods you are eating so that the nutrients they contain are more easily accessible by the body later in the digestive process. However, tooth loss affects your ability to do these things. Without teeth, it becomes more difficult to thoroughly break down your foods, which then makes your body work harder to access nutrients. As a result, the body does not absorb all of the nutrients it needs, and you can suffer from malnutrition.

Trouble Forming Words and Talking

Your teeth play an important role in speech. They control the flow of air when you talk, which enables you to form many of the words and sounds you need to use to communicate effectively. Losing even just some of your teeth causes you to lose some of this control. As a result, you may develop a lisp. Speaking, in general, may become more difficult, and you may find that you have to repeat yourself several times because others are having a hard time understanding you.

The Impact on Your Smile

If you are missing teeth, your smile will be impacted; replace missing teeth to restore your smile! The teeth are a major component of the quality of your smile. When you have a mouth full of straight, white, beautiful teeth, your smile can leave a positive impression that others are sure to remember. However, when you lose your teeth, you suddenly have gaps in your smile, which can significantly deteriorate your smile. Additionally, this effect on your smile can affect your confidence. You may find that you are hiding your smile behind your hand, or that you are only giving tight-lipped grins. These actions can leave a lasting impression too, but not the one you want.

What Tooth Loss Does to Your Jawbone

Many of the effects of tooth loss are obvious right away. Under the gums, tooth loss also affects the health of your jawbone. The teeth are responsible for stimulating the bone. Every time you chew, a message is sent to your body, which response by sending essential nutrients required for keeping the jaw and surrounding areas strong and healthy. When you lose teeth, the stimulation is reduced. As a result, fewer nutrients are sent. The jawbone gradually begins to resorb and grow weak. It begins to change shape, which alters the bite of your remaining teeth. If you lose a significant number of teeth, you may also find that your lips and cheeks have sunken in, the skin on your face has begun to sag, and wrinkles have formed. You have suddenly aged well beyond your years.

How to Replace Missing Teeth

If you are missing teeth, dental implants may be able to help you and improve your quality of life. These restorations provide a permanent foundation to support new crowns, and even your existing dentures can be anchored to them to eliminate the need for messy adhesives with implant-supported dentures or the All-on-4® Treatment Concept. Dental implants can dramatically improve your health and confidence by allowing you to regain your beautiful and functional smile.

Questions About Missing Teeth?

When you lose your teeth, it is important to replace missing teeth as soon as possible. Replacing your missing teeth, even replacing a single missing tooth that is out of sight when you smile, can help to restore the functions of your mouth, your confidence, and your overall quality of life. If you have suffered tooth loss, call The Mugford Center for more information and to schedule your consultation today at (410) 260-0790.
