Foods to Avoid Following Gum Grafts
Posted on 8/20/2019 by David Mugford
After you have a gum graft done in our office, you'll want to be sure what foods you should eat. This is important because you've just had work done on your mouth that you don't want to mess up. You'll also be uncomfortable and eating the wrong food could make this worse. What Foods Not to Eat After a Gum GraftGenerally speaking, we don't place any restrictions on the foods you can eat. However, you may have to bite or chew a bit differently, depending on where we did the gum graft at in your mouth. We do suggest that you don't eat anything hard, chewy, or spicy because such foods could make you bleed more. This is especially true for your donor site or palate. What Foods to Eat After a Gum GraftDon't fret, there are still many different foods you can eat after your procedure. For instance, right after your surgery, you should only eat ice cream, milkshakes, pudding, and yogurt. Don't use a straw and stay away from things like soda and fruit juice. Then for the first few weeks after the procedure you should do your best to eat foods that are both soft and cool to the touch. This includes things like eggs, rice, pasta, fish, oatmeal, ice cream, yogurt, Jell-O, soft vegetables, tofu, mashed potatoes, and cottage cheese. When eating these foods, make sure you chew on the opposite side of your mouth that you had your surgery on. If in doubt, you can always make a lot of great smoothies from these options. Make sure you discuss any concerns about your gum graft with us. If these arise after the procedure, make sure you give our office a call right away. We can easily set up an appointment for you to stop by and discuss your concerns with us....
