Lumps on Your Gums Are Not Always Dangerous

Posted on 9/21/2021 by David Mugford
Lumps on Your Gums Are Not Always DangerousThere are many different causes of lumps and bumps on the gums, just like there are many different causes of lumps and bumps on other parts of the body. While bumps can be concerning, they are not always dangerous or something to worry about. Regular oral hygiene may be the key to preventing any unwanted lumps or boils.

Causes of Lumps on the Gums

There are many different causes of lumps on the gums, some can be serious, but others are not harmful and will go away on their own. A bump on the gums can be called an abscess, and the main cause behind the problem is bacteria. This bacterium can be associated with plaque, particles of food, or tooth decay. In some cases, a boil may be a sign of oral cancer. A lot of times, lumps are caused by poor oral hygiene, which means it can be resolved with better oral health habits. This means regular brushing and flossing, and regular professional cleanings to make sure you mouth stays as healthy as possible.

Symptoms Associated with Lumps

Some symptoms associated with lumps on the gum may include bleeding, bad breath, pus discharge, swollen gums, earaches, nausea, fever or fatigue, and sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures. Some of these symptoms can be associated with serious concerns, while other times these symptoms may be nothing to worry about, but it does not hurt to get checked out to eliminate any concern.

There are many remedies for lumps on the gums, and we can help you solve the problem by helping with a deep cleaning or other procedures and treatments. There may also be some home remedies for less serious lumps that we can recommend for you after hearing more about your symptoms and concerns. If you have a lump, or have questions about prevention, please call our office and our periodontists will be happy to help.
