The Mugford Center Covid-19 Update
At The Mugford Center we prioritize the safety of our patients and employees. We have always taken extra precautions to provide our patients with a clean and sterile environment. In these times we make sure to go above and beyond what the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, the American Dental Association, and the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners recommends. Our goal is to make everyone who comes into our office feel as comfortable as they possibly can.

|You may or may not have heard of ridge augmentation procedures. That does not mean it is something you should not find out more about. It may surprise you to find put that this procedure is more common than you realize and that there are plenty of people who benefit from it. All you need to know to figure out who needs ridge augmentation is to learn about the procedure.
What Is It
When you lose a tooth, you change the shape of your gums and teeth. It doesn't really matter how you lose the tooth, the structure of your gums will change. During a tooth extraction there is some bone loss. Bone loss can also occur after teeth are lost for other reasons. While it may not seem like a big deal, there are times when the loss of bone and the changing of the contour of the gums can cause other problems. That is where ridge augmentation can come in.
Ridge augmentation is a procedure that rebuilds the area where the bone loss occurs and return the natural contour of the gums. It can also help strengthen the area where the tooth was lost.
More Than A Cosmetic Thing
Some will look at ridge augmentation and think it is a cosmetic procedure. They may think that you don't really have to restore the natural look, you only do it to improve your smile. That is only partly true. Ridge augmentation does improve the appearance, but there are times when it is necessary.
People that want to have dental implants or some other tool to replace teeth that are lost, may need the ridge augmentation. They may need more bone for an implant or they may need the natural contour for other dental appliances to fit properly.
The hope is that you can retain your natural teeth and perfect smile without the need for procedures such as ridge augmentation. Most people are not that lucky, so it is worth learning about procedures like this before you have a need.
