Home Remedies for Gum Inflammation

Posted on 3/10/2018 by David Mugford
Gum Inflammation The Mugford Center MD 21114-2033Sometimes we don't have time to visit the office, and that's okay. Some of us just can't afford to come visit, and that's okay too.

We understand that life gets too busy and rough that you can't make it into the office for routine checkups. So, in this article we are going to list several home remedies to help get the infection out of your gums.

At Home Remedies to Clear Your Mouth of Infection

•  Rinse your mount with warm salt water, after every meal and brushing your teeth for 20-30 seconds. Take 1 tablespoon of salt, mix it in a cup of warm water, and swish it all around your mouth. What this does is that the salt water creates an isotonic environment in your mouth and it will destroy the bacteria and keep it from breeding.
•  Warm and cold compresses, will take the swelling down and reduce the pain, first get a bottle and fill it up with warm water, place a washcloth over the bottle, then hold it to your skin near the infected tooth. Do the same with the cold compress or ice pack, switch back and forth every 5 minutes, repeat when needed.
•  Hydrogen Peroxide can also be used to treat infection in your gums and reduce your pain. You want to mix it equally hydrogen peroxide (the 3 percent variety) and water. Swish it around your gums and teeth for 20-30 seconds, then rinse your mouth out with warm water. You can also make a paste with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide just enough to make it thick and mushy, like toothpaste, then you need to rub the paste on your gums and wait 1-2 minutes with it on, then rinse your mouth out thoroughly with warm water.
•  Another remedy to treat infected gums is aloe vera. It has anti-inflammatory medicine and antibacterial properties that can prevent more growth of plaque and bacteria your mouth and it will soothe your inflamed gums. Just break open the aloe vera leaf and squeeze out the gel onto your finger, then rub the gel on your gums, and massage them for 1-2 minutes, after that you need to rinse thoroughly with warm water. You can repeat the process 3 times a day.

If none of the above helps, we urge you to call us and come for a visit, so we can get you in and out and on with your life free of tooth pain!
